  our vision

The aim of the Active Age Research Group is to promote the health, well-being and welfare of older people through the conduct of high quality research.

Active Age is a multi-disciplinary research environment designed to facilitate ageing research in Cardiff University. Active Age is led by Dr John Gallacher but involves researchers who are each successful Principle Investigators in their own right. Active Age brings together a range of specific research programmes comprising:

• Genetics of Dementia

• Abeta Immunotherapy

• Haemostatic and Inflammatory basis of Dementia

• Psychosocial well-being and cognitive decline

• The built environment and psychosocial well-being

• Urban planning and psychosocial well-being

• Longitudinal data analysis

• Therapeutic decision making

Underpinning Active Age is recognition of the need to develop new technologies enabling the conduct of very large studies that are dedicated to the needs, concerns and interests of older people.
